About Me

As a child, you would always find me with paper and a pencil.  Drawing was my way to express how I saw things.  This was of course long before the availability of computers as they are today, and there was no “Undo” button.  If you made a mistake, you had to use an eraser or start again.  This however taught me to look at things carefully and to see every little detail.

As computers became more and more available to the public, ways to express yourself became easier.  Working in Cape Town at a vehicle tracking and recovery company, I spent hours during night shifts drawing pictures, pixel by pixel in MS Paint.  This was before broadband and DSTV, so through my creativity I found a way to make the silent 12 hour shifts pass by.

Programs like Photoshop have revolutionized the world since then and our abilities to “alter” reality.  After advancing very fast through the ranks at the vehicle tracking company, to the position of National Operations Manager, I left the industry after 7 years in 2006, to start T13 Design, my web and graphic design business, with a single computer and no formal training.  I again found an outlet for my creativity, which I am still doing currently.

In 2010 I took on a project that would change my life forever.  I worked on a website for Lou Coetzer, a world-renowned photographer, in conjunction with Nikon South Africa.  As the project drew to completion, I asked Lou if as payment he could give me a Nikon D60 DSLR camera.  He did me one better and gave me a Nikon D80 DSLR with a 18-200mm VR lens.

Photography very quickly became an obsession and I would read every photographic magazine I could lay my hands on for inspiration.  Every opportunity would be spent on trying different settings on the camera to see what effect it had.

Today my equipment have improved vastly from the D80 (which I still have), and I have also obtained a Diploma of Photography from The Photography Institute.  I am currently busy with a course through The Photography Institute, in wedding photography.

Some of my images have been featured in local photographic magazines, and have also won some awards on online community sites and the odd photography competition.

When people ask me what type of photography I do, I say “I like to photograph anything that is worth photographing”, and that is why I will try any genre, be it glamour, commercial, sport or even wildlife.  I believe that when you take a photograph you are expressing how you see the world – Your World through Pictures…
